Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are a number of ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize multiple techniques: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and convenient whitening procedure. The visit is around one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment since it is so easy and fast!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
