What Are Single Visit Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental expert can economically restore damaged teeth in a single consultation using a high-quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional second appointment has been removed. This new technology has more than 10 years of scientific research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and reliable.

Today's Subject Will Be:

Composite Dental Bonding

Bonding is a treatment in which we use a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be used in certain scenarios where a tooth has been damaged or become stained. These are generally minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this reasonably affordable means rather than through a more costly dental procedure.

Here Is How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to alter the positioning of the tooth, close spaces in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface area of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material adheres to the surface. Then the material itself is placed on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to get a shiny finish as a last step.
