Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of many patients, there are multiple methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth considerably. Because tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous techniques: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab produces into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is recommended for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and practical whitening procedure. The visit is around one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment since it is so easy and quick!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be utilized every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
