Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of most patients, there are multiple methods to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will lighten teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists use a number of techniques: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is recommended for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really fast and practical whitening process. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment because it is so simple and fast!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
