Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of many clients, there are numerous methods to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth lightening system that will bleach teeth dramatically. Since tooth lightening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous methods: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three various strengths of gel may be used, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really fast and hassle-free lightening process. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment because it is so simple and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
