Today's Conversation Is About:

Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)

Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a lovely and appealing smile.

Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.

As with most dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last years, providing you a long lasting, beautiful smile.

How Are Veneers Placed?

Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.

The direct strategy generally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is generally referred to as bonding.

The indirect technique typically involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.

The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.

You will get care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
