The Topic For Today Is:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of the majority of patients, there are a number of methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize a number of methods: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a very fast and convenient whitening process. The appointment is around one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment because it is so easy and fast!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays ought to be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
