Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to most dental restorations, veneers may someday require replacement; however, they are still very long lasting and will last years, giving you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
