Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to most dental restorations, veneers might one day need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last multiple years, offering you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy usually involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your new and gorgeous veneers.
