What Are Single Visit Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dentist can economically bring back broken teeth in a single consultation using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an precise picture of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly creates the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

What Does This Innovation Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional 2nd appointment has been eliminated. This new technology has more than 10 years of medical research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

The Discussion Of The Day Is:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are numerous ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will bleach teeth dramatically. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize a number of techniques: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of everyday use. 3 different strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely fast and practical lightening process. The appointment is around one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and fast!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
