If you have a fractured or damaged tooth, are experiencing discomfort when chewing or exposed to hot or cold temperatures, or wish to get rid of unattractive metal crowns or fillings, then dental crowns might be a good alternative for you. Dental Crowns cover the outter surface of the affected tooth, adding toughness and stability to it.

Same-day dental crowns are an option that we provide on a case by case basis to clients who would benefit from the procedure. They enable patients to come to our office and leave within a couple hours with their final dental crown in place that same day. This eliminates the need to have a short-term crown placed then another appointment arranged for the positioning of the permanent crown.

Our Same-Day Crowns are made with our brand-new technology that scans the mouth to get the proper measurements of your tooth and surrounding teeth, and then makes your crown right there in the office. These restorations are extremely strong and durable and made out of the highest quality porcelain available. In some cases, a gold crown might be suggested for your posterior teeth (back teeth) if you grind or clench your teeth a lot.

Gold crowns are different from porcelain crowns, and the expense may differ between the two and you may want to discuss your budget plan as well with the your dental practitioner. Your dental practitioner will discuss with you the types of crowns available and offer you a recommendation based on your specific circumstance.

Call us to arrange a complimentary cosmetic consultation. We look forward to meeting you.

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the whole tooth surface area restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and reinforces the tooth structure giving the tooth a longer life span than it would have if restored by fillings or other types of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is most likely to break, or is too broken down to be recovered with a filling. They are most frequently done after root canal treatments, or when a large filling wears out. The larger the hole made by a cavity that needs to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Even after a filling is put in a huge cavity, a tooth is more likely to break. Bear in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth undergo remarkable pressures. Crowns sit over the weakened tooth, providing strength and securing the tooth against damage. A damaged or cracked tooth is a much more serious matter and much more tough to treat. Crowns prevent this, in addition to producing a good smile.

It takes 2 appointments to restore a tooth with a crown. In the first visit any decay is removed from the tooth and it is formed to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in fabricating a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, generally of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold. A temporary crown is worn throughout this time. In the second visit this temporary crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed and then cemented in place.

What Does Getting A Crown Involve?

A crown procedure normally needs 2 appointments. Your first appointment will include taking impressions that will be used to create your custom-made crown. A mold will also be used to produce a short-term crown which will remain on your tooth for approximately two weeks till your new crown is produced by a dental laboratory.

While the tooth is numb, the dental practitioner will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the surface area to appropriately fit the crown. As soon as these details are accomplished, your short-term crown will be positioned with short-term cement and your bite will be examined to guarantee you are biting properly.

At your second appointment your temporary crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your new crown will be thoroughly positioned to make sure the spacing and bite are precise.

You will be given care guidelines and encouraged to have regular dental visits to inspect your crown. As always, appropriate oral hygiene will help extend the life of your brand-new crown.
