PITTSBURGH PENNSYLVANIA

At our dental practice we do same day crowns. You may be asking, what are same day crowns and what can it provide for me?

It is a 3D system that lets us make porcelain crowns and inlays all in one visit. We have now been using this innovation for multiple years and love it more than ever.

Same day crowns are an in-surgery computer system that enables us to change damaged or missing tooth structures with a ceramic material that's as close to a natural tooth as is possible.

This is done while you are in the practice, in simply one appointment. All ceramic porcelain inlays and onlays, veneers and crowns that look like natural teeth can be made and placed in a single appointment, normally in about an hour.

So what is the treatment?

We scan the opposite teeth and the way the teeth bite together first. We remove the old filling, and decay and any thin weak tooth product and scan the readied tooth.

After this we stop working in the mouth and begin working with the computer.

Everyone likes seeing the pictures of their teeth and the designing of their brand-new tooth. We make 3D design and this info is sent out to the milling device.

Everybody asks if this is like 3D printing and yes it is, but the tooth is not developed layer by layer, it is cut from a block in the device, which is much stronger.

The block is then exactly sculpted to produce your brand-new restoration, which is great.

Finally, the custom made crown restoration bonded seamlessly into the tooth, strengthening and sealing it at the same time and after that we tidy up!

We have to make certain that you can bite properly, that its smooth and that you can floss.

Same Day Tooth Restorations

CEREC stands for CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take precise digital imagery of areas requiring restoration and produce the suitable restoration on the spot.

With our CEREC cad/cam machine, you can have your crown or other restoration completed in just one visit. We will develop and custom fit your tooth precisely with our computer milling unit right in the office. You no longer need to have a temporary crown or wait weeks for the laboratory to produce your crown.

CEREC can be used for a wide range of indications: partial crowns, posterior crowns, anterior crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays.

Today's Conversation Has To Do With:

Fillings

Fillings are done to remove decay, and replace the affected tooth structure. It is called a filling since new material fills the hole that the decay left. Now days most teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin fillings. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated, decay can result in tooth pain and/or infection, and the tooth would need a root canal treatment or extraction.

There are 2 kinds of fillings; amalgam or silver fillings, and composite or white fillings. Composite fillings are tooth-colored to blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Most dentists offer both kinds of fillings, but find that a lot of their patients prefer the composite fillings.

The term composite refers to the actual filling material which is a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium.

Composite fillings supply great durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that need to stand up to moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is eliminated when the dental practitioner prepares the tooth, and this may lead to a smaller filling than with of an amalgam.

In addition, composites are "bonded", or adhesively connected, to the tooth, commonly enabling a more conservative repair for the tooth. Composite fillings require that the tooth be kept clean and dry during the entire filling process and they are subject to stain and discoloration with time. The life expectancy of a white filling can depend greatly on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.

Composite filling material is also typically utilized to fix front teeth that have broken or worn. Where possible, esthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is typically much cheaper than veneers or crowns. However, bonding typically does not last as long as veneers or crowns.
