What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dentist can economically bring back damaged teeth in a single consultation using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard second visit has actually been eliminated. This brand-new innovation has more than 10 years of medical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective.

Today's Conversation Will Be About:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are multiple ways to lighten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth considerably. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize multiple methods: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab fabricates into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three different strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely fast and hassle-free lightening procedure. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment since it is so easy and quick!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
