Dental Bonding (Composite)
Bonding is a treatment in which we use a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be used in certain circumstances where a tooth has been damaged or become stained. These are normally small repairs, ones that can be resolved through this relatively inexpensive means instead of through a more expensive dental procedure.
Here's How It Works:
Bonding includes adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to fix damage done to the tooth by decay, to modify the positioning of the tooth, close spaces in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is used so the material sticks to the surface area. Then the material itself is positioned on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to obtain a shiny finish as a last step.
