Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to a lot of dental restorations, veneers may at some point require replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last multiple years, offering you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy usually involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method generally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
