What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dentist can economically bring back damaged teeth in a single appointment using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate image of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and shown on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD innovation to develop the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly produces the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer have to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard 2nd appointment has been removed. This new technology has over 10 years of scientific research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and efficient.

Today We Will Be Talking About:

Dental Bonding (Composite)

Bonding is a treatment in which we apply a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be utilized in certain situations where a tooth has been broken or ended up being stained. These are typically minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this fairly affordable methods rather than through a more pricey dental treatment.

How It Works:
Bonding includes adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the alignment of the tooth, close spaces in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughed up in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is used so the material adheres to the surface area. Then the material itself is placed on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to get a lustrous finish as a last step.
