Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are a number of methods to lighten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will bleach teeth significantly. Since tooth lightening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize a number of methods: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and practical lightening process. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and fast!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
