What Is A Dental Crown?

A crown is a cap made to cover a tooth with the function of restoring it to its natural size and shape or to improve its look. To get ready for the crown, dentists drill to get rid of the decayed section as well as form the tooth to get ready for the crown for that portion which lies around and above the gum line.

Same Day Tooth Restorations

CEREC means CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take exact digital images of locations requiring restoration and produce the appropriate restoration on the spot.

With our CEREC cad/cam machine, you can have your crown or other restoration finished in simply one visit. We will develop and custom fit your tooth precisely with our computer system milling unit right in the office. You no longer need to have a temporary crown or wait weeks for the lab to produce your crown.

CEREC can be used in a wide range of indications: inlays, onlays, partial crowns, posterior crowns, anterior crowns and veneers.

Today's Topic Has To Do With:

Root Canal (Endodontic Treatment)

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is essential when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect problems early). Often deep restorations or trauma to a tooth might also cause the nerve to be harmed to the point it requires root canal therapy. As soon as this occurs, the pulp ends up being infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it needs to be treated, and can not recover on its own. It can even deteriorate the whole immune system. This is dangerous, and may be really uncomfortable. Signs that the pulp has ended up being infected might include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, discomfort, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. In some cases, however, no symptoms are apparent and the individual is unaware of any issue until a checkup.

A root canal is then carried out to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. As soon as the infection is resolved, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any more infection. Typically a core build-up and crown is recommended for restoring a tooth that has actually had root canal therapy.
