Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to the majority of dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still extremely durable and will last many years, offering you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is positioned over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and lovely veneers.
