What Is A Dental Crown?

A crown is a cap made to cover a tooth with the purpose of restoring it to its natural size and shape or to improve its look. To prepare for the crown, dentists drill to eliminate the decayed section and also form the tooth to prepare for the crown for that portion which lies around and above the gum line.

Same Day Teeth Restorations

CEREC stands for CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take exact digital images of locations needing restoration and produce the appropriate restoration on the spot.

With our CEREC cad/cam machine, you can have your crown or other restoration finished in simply one visit. We will create and custom fit your tooth precisely with our computer milling unit right in the office. You no longer need to have a temporary crown or wait weeks for the lab to produce your crown.

CEREC can be used for a full scope of indications: onlays, partial crowns, posterior crowns, anterior crowns, veneers and inlays.

Today's Topic Has To Do With:

Digital X-Rays

X-rays are a primary tool for early identification of dental problems.

Finding issues with x-rays before they become problems can save you money in the long run by preventing the requirement for more extensive, costly procedures or surgeries. X-rays are primarily used to identify:

  • Cysts (fluid filled sacks at the base of your teeth).

  • Impacted teeth.

  • Teeth that are still coming in.

  • Tumors, both cancerous and non-cancerous.

  • Internal tooth decay.

Most dentists use digital x-rays, which have numerous advantages over traditional film based x-rays. Digital x-rays allow us to take x-rays with 1/5 of the radiation that you would receive from conventional dental x-rays. The worry of direct exposure to excess radiation is removed.

Large on-screen X-rays make patient communication more effective. The instant observation of the images on the screen allows us to discuss your dental health quickly and precisely.

Digital radiography has greatly improved the practice of dentistry. It allows the patient and the medical professional to see pictures of the teeth in greater resolution on a large format for easier detection of issues, all while decreasing the radiation exposure to the patient. The process we use further defines the radiograph, resulting in clinically meaningful images that are sharp, detailed and rich in contrast.

Images are available instantly after exposure, eliminating the wait and effort spent developing and installing x-rays. If an image needs to be retaken, it can be done immediately. Digital format also allows us to send and get your images electronically for consultation that can be presented to you quickly.
