Too busy for the normal two dental appointment crown?

Technology today is changing our daily lives. Many people, however, aren't aware that innovation also is affecting dentistry in brand-new and exciting methods.

Advanced developments in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, causing less discomfort and developing satisfying outcomes.

One breakthrough instrument, called same day crowns, permits dentists to quickly fix broken teeth with natural-colored ceramic fillings, conserving patients time and trouble.

What are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns, indicates that a dentist can quickly fix broken teeth in a single appointment using a top quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How does it work?

Same day crowns use CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, integrating a camera, computer, and milling device in one instrument.

The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take a precise photo of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to design the restoration. The CAM takes control and immediately develops the restoration while the patient waits.

Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about two hours.

Exactly what does this innovation provide for a client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant.

Dental practitioners don't have to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the conventional second visit has been eliminated.

Same day crowns have twenty years of medical research and documents to promote the innovation. The restorations have been shown precise, safe and reliable.

How can I discover if this is an alternative for me?

Call our practice today and we will be happy to address your concerns on this brand-new technology.

Today's Topic Has To Do With:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of many patients, there are numerous methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize multiple techniques: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three various strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is recommended for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a very quick and convenient bleaching process. The appointment is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and quick!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
