What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental expert can economically bring back broken teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire procedure takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer have to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional 2nd appointment has actually been removed. This brand-new innovation has over 10 years of scientific research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and effective.

Today's Subject Will Be:

Fillings

Fillings are done to remove decay, and replace the affected tooth structure. It is called a filling because brand-new material fills the hole that the decay left. Now days most teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin fillings. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated, decay can result in tooth pain and/or infection, and the tooth would require a root canal treatment or extraction.

There are 2 types of fillings; amalgam or silver fillings, and composite or white fillings. Composite fillings are tooth-colored to blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Most dentists supply both kinds of fillings, however find that a lot of their patients prefer the composite fillings.

The term composite refers to the actual filling material which is a mix of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium.

Composite fillings offer good sturdiness and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that have to endure moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is removed when the dental practitioner prepares the tooth, and this may result in a smaller filling than with of an amalgam.

In addition, composites are "bonded", or adhesively connected, to the tooth, often enabling a more conservative repair for the tooth. Composite fillings require that the tooth be kept clean and dry throughout the whole filling procedure and they go through stain and staining over time. The life span of a white filling can depend significantly on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.

Composite filling material is also typically utilized to fix front teeth that have cracked or worn. Where possible, esthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is normally much more economical than veneers or crowns. However, bonding typically does not last as long as veneers or crowns.
