What Are Single Visit Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental professional can financially restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise photo of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately develops the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire procedure takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Innovation Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional second appointment has actually been eliminated. This brand-new innovation has more than 10 years of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

The Discussion For Today Will Be:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of patients, there are numerous ways to lighten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists use multiple techniques: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three different strengths of gel may be used, however, the greater the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is suggested for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really quick and practical whitening procedure. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and quick!

Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
