Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like most dental restorations, veneers might at some point need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
