Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a lovely and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like many dental restorations, veneers may someday require replacement; however, they are still extremely durable and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy typically involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy typically involves two visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care instructions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
