Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are multiple ways to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use multiple techniques: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab produces into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely fast and practical whitening process. The appointment is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment since it is so easy and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
