Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are numerous methods to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize a number of techniques: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of daily use. 3 different strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and convenient bleaching process. The visit is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment since it is so easy and quick!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
