Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)

Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and appealing smile.

Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.

As with many dental restorations, veneers might one day require replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last multiple years, providing you a long lasting, lovely smile.

How Are Veneers Set?

Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is placed over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.

The direct method typically involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is normally referred to as bonding.

The indirect method usually involves 2 visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.

The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is typically less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.

You will receive care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and stunning veneers.
