Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with a lot of dental restorations, veneers might someday need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last many years, providing you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique generally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect method normally involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
