Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are numerous methods to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth bleaching system that will bleach teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous techniques: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three different strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and convenient bleaching procedure. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and quick!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
