Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are multiple ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will lighten teeth significantly. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize a number of methods: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very fast and hassle-free whitening process. The appointment is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and quick!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
