Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with a lot of dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still extremely durable and will last years, offering you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is placed over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique typically involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method usually involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental laboratory. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
