The Topic Of The Day Will Be:

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that covers the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and reinforces the tooth structure providing the tooth a longer life span than it would have if restored by fillings or other types of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is most likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most typically done after root canal treatments, or when a big filling breaks. The bigger the hole made by a cavity that needs to be treated, the more likely a crown will be required. Even after a filling is put in a huge cavity, a tooth is most likely to break. Remember that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the body. Teeth undergo remarkable pressures. Crowns sit over the weakened tooth, offering strength and securing the tooth against breakage. A busted or cracked tooth is a far more severe matter and much more hard to treat. Crowns prevent this, as well as making for a nice smile.

It takes 2 appointments to bring back a tooth with a crown. In the first visit any decay is eliminated from the tooth and it is formed to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in producing a crown. In between the two visits the crown is made, normally of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold. A short-term crown is worn during this time. In the 2nd visit this short-term crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed and then cemented in place.

Exactly What Does Getting A Crown Involve?

A crown treatment typically needs 2 appointments. Your very first appointment will include taking impressions that will be utilized to create your customized crown. A mold will also be used to produce a temporary crown which will remain on your tooth for roughly 2 weeks until your brand-new crown is made by a dental laboratory.

While the tooth is numb, the dental practitioner will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and forming the surface area to correctly fit the crown. As soon as these details are achieved, your short-term crown will be placed with temporary cement and your bite will be examined to guarantee you are biting properly.

At your 2nd visit your short-term crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your brand-new crown will be thoroughly positioned to ensure the spacing and bite are precise.

You will be given care directions and encouraged to have regular dental check ups to examine your crown. As always, proper oral hygiene will help extend the life of your brand-new crown.
