Even though dental crowns are considered in addition to other procedures that fall under the cosmetic dentistry classification, they can help to significantly improve any individual's oral health. Dental crowns are mostly used to fix the size, shape, and function of a tooth. Most commonly, dental crowns are used following a root canal therapy treatment wherein a part of the tooth mass is eliminated in order to get rid of decayed parts of the tooth. A dental crown is then used to help restore exactly what parts of the tooth were lost so that it can work as it once did, fixing the oral well being of the patient.

Often, dental crowns take time to process and are crafted in a laboratory while the patient uses a temporary crown in its stead. Now we can offer clients with same day dental crowns! Today's Topic Will Be:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of many clients, there are multiple ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth bleaching system that will whiten teeth considerably. Because tooth bleaching only works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize a number of approaches: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel may be used, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is recommended for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a very quick and practical lightening process. The visit is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment because it is so simple and quick!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays ought to be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
