Porcelain Tooth Veneers
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers might one day need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the very first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
