Exactly What Are The Advantages Of Same Day Crowns?

There are multiple benefits to having treatment with same day crowns over standard, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single appointment, you just need to see the dentist once, take one day from your work to have the procedure, instead of the typical two or three visits.

  • Only one set of local, because the whole procedure can be carried out within an hour you only have to have one injection.

  • Your dentist is in complete control of the outcome, because the crown or inlay are designed and made from start to finish by your dental practitioner, they have overall control over how it will look and fit.

  • No short-term restorations, which can typically fall off in between appointments if they are not taken care of properly.

Today's Topic Is:

Temporal-Mandibular Joint

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be triggered by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are associated with the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble or soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps in between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouth piece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the problem. If unattended and taken to extremes, surgery may be needed to fix a terribly damaged joint.
