The Conversation For Today Will Be:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are multiple ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth lightening system that will bleach teeth considerably. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize a number of techniques: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is recommended for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a very quick and practical bleaching process. The appointment is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment since it is so simple and fast!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be utilized every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
