Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like many dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last years, giving you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method generally involves two visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is typically less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will aid in the life of your new and gorgeous veneers.
