Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a lovely and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like the majority of dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still very long lasting and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique generally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care guidelines for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
