Porcelain Tooth Veneers
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last years, offering you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method typically involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method generally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the very first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and stunning veneers.
