Today's Subject Will Be:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are a number of methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth significantly. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists use multiple approaches: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab produces into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and hassle-free whitening process. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment because it is so easy and fast!

Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
