Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with the majority of dental restorations, veneers might someday need replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is positioned over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique generally involves 2 appointments because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is generally less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new and gorgeous veneers.
