Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are a number of ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth significantly. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use a number of methods: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of everyday use. 3 various strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really fast and practical lightening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment because it is so easy and fast!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
