Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like a lot of dental restorations, veneers might one day need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last multiple years, providing you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and stunning veneers.
