What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental practitioner can financially restore damaged teeth in a single consultation using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a unique camera to take an accurate photo of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire procedure takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard second visit has been removed. This new technology has more than 10 years of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have actually been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

Today's Subject Is:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of patients, there are multiple ways to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth bleaching system that will lighten teeth significantly. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists use numerous techniques: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three different strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really fast and hassle-free lightening process. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment since it is so easy and quick!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be used every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
