Although dental crowns are considered along with other procedures that fall under the cosmetic dentistry classification, they can help to vastly improve anybody's oral health. Dental crowns are mostly used to fix the size, shape, and function of a tooth. Most commonly, dental crowns are used following a root canal therapy procedure wherein a portion of the tooth mass is eliminated in order to get rid of decayed portions of the tooth. A dental crown is then used to help restore exactly what parts of the tooth were lost so that it can work as it once did, restoring the oral well being of the client.

In some cases, dental crowns require time to process and are crafted in a laboratory while the patient wears a temporary crown in its stead. Now we can provide clients with same day dental crowns! Today We Will Be Talking About:

Fillings

Fillings are done to remove decay, and replace the affected tooth structure. It is called a filling due to the fact that brand-new material fills the hole that the decay left. Now days most teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin fillings. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated, decay can lead to tooth pain and/or infection, and the tooth would require a root canal treatment or extraction.

There are two types of fillings; amalgam or silver fillings, and composite or white fillings. Composite fillings are tooth-colored to blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Most dentists supply both types of fillings, however find that a lot of their patients like the composite fillings.

The term composite refers to the actual filling material which is a mix of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium.

Composite fillings supply great toughness and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that have to endure moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is removed when the dental practitioner prepares the tooth, and this may result in a smaller filling than with of an amalgam.

In addition, composites are "bonded", or adhesively connected, to the tooth, often allowing a more conservative repair for the tooth. Composite fillings require that the tooth be kept clean and dry during the entire filling process and they are subject to stain and discoloration with time. The life expectancy of a white filling can depend considerably on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.

Composite filling material is also typically used to repair front teeth that have broken or worn. Where possible, esthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is usually much less expensive than veneers or crowns. However, bonding typically does not last as long as veneers or crowns.
