What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental practitioner can financially bring back damaged teeth in a single consultation using a premium ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an precise photo of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically produces the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Innovation Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the standard second visit has actually been eliminated. This new technology has more than a decade of clinical research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

Today's Conversation Has To Do With:

Root Canal

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is required when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and find issues early). Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may also cause the nerve to be harmed to the point it requires root canal therapy. As soon as this occurs, the pulp ends up being infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it needs to be treated, and can not recover on its own. It can even damage the entire immune system. This is dangerous, and may be really unpleasant. Signs that the pulp has ended up being infected may consist of sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Often, however, no signs appear and the individual is unaware of any problem until a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and sanitize the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. As soon as the infection is fixed, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any additional infection. Generally a core build-up and crown is suggested for bring back a tooth that has actually had root canal therapy.
