Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a stunning and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still extremely durable and will last years, giving you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method normally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and lovely veneers.
