Exactly What Are The Benefits Of Same Day Crowns?

There are multiple advantages to having treatment with same day crowns over traditional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single appointment, you only have to see the dentist once, take one day away from your schedule to have the treatment, instead of the normal 2 or three appointments.

  • Only one set of local, given that the entire procedure can be performed within an hour you just need to have one injection.

  • Your dental practitioner remains in complete control of the final outcome, given that the crown or inlay are designed and fabricated from start to finish by your dentist, they have total control over how it will look and fit.

  • No short-term restorations, which can often fall off in between visits if they are not looked after appropriately.

Today's Subject Is:

TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint)

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are involved in the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble or soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, in some cases extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces in between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the problem. If unattended and taken to extremes, surgery may be required to repair a terribly damaged joint.
