Two Reasons To Talk With Your Dental Professional Regarding Same Day Crowns

Same day crowns are a terrific option that makes getting a crown much more practical and less time-consuming. These crowns work in much the same method as standard crowns, except that same-day crowns are made in the dentist's office while you are waiting, rather than being purchased from a dental laboratory like traditional crowns.

Here are two reasons to speak to your dentist about the possibility of getting a same day crown:

Far more Convenient

Convenience is going to be the best reason that many individuals decide to go with a same-day crown.

In the past, getting a crown would mean that you would need to pay multiple visits to your dentist before the crown was in place, with one appointment dedicated to preparing your tooth and another appointment to place the permanent crown over your tooth.

While that may not seem like it is too time-consuming, it can typically be hard to require time off from your job or family multiple times in the length of a week or 2 in order to see your dentist throughout normal business hours.

Because the same-day crown is made in-house by your dental practitioner, you will have the last crown fitted over the tooth before you leave from your one required crown visit.

This is useful since you won't have to fret about irritating your employer, having your co-workers cover for you, or missing out on pay because you had to leave in the middle of the work day multiple times to go to the dentist.

A Lot More Comfortable

Another reason to ask your dental practitioner for a same-day crown is comfort. Same day crowns are more comfortable due to the fact that you won't have to spend a week or more having a short-term crown while awaiting your long-term crown.

A short-term crown can frequently provide a fair bit of irritation and discomfort because it can typically become loose quickly.

When a short-term crown is loose, it can allow liquids to get under it and touch nerves in the exposed roots of your tooth. The loose fit can also trigger the short-term crown to move along your gum and cause the skin to become scratched and irritated.

While you generally do not have to wear a short-term crown for long, a same-day crown can enable you to avoid any issues associated with the short-term crown completely.

This type of crown is going to be both a lot more comfortable and much more practical to get than a standard crown.

Temporal-Mandibular Joint

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are associated with the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps in between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Sometimes a plastic mouth piece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the problem. If untreated and required to extremes, surgery may be required to fix a severely damaged joint.
